WOLLONGONG City Council has been successful in gaining a three per cent interest rate subsidy for a $4.3 million loan under the NSW Government’s Local Infrastructure Renewal Scheme (LIRS).
Together with Council funding of $1.20 million, a $5.5 million program of building renewal works can now getaway.
The LIRS assisted funding will go towards the upgrade to Corrimal Community Centre and Library, and the adaptive reuse of the Thirroul Beach Kiosk and Pavilion.
In Corrimal Library and Community Centre, Council plan to upgrade the kitchen, re-painting, replace floor coverings, upgrade lighting and replace shelving in the library, as well as installing new public artworks to reflect the achievements of the Corrimal Senior Citizens Group.
At Thirroul, Council will refurbish and upgrade the beach kiosk and pavilion. Internally Council will upgrade the kiosk so it can expand its service to customers.
The Thirroul pavilion is already operating as a kiosk, and an up-market restaurant.
Wollongong Lord Mayor Gordon Bradbery said the renewal and refurbishment of the community buildings will see their future life expanded.
Berkeley Community Centre will also be expanded and renovated under the funding.
